Ophthalmology Technician

We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Ophthalmology Technician to join our clinical team. This role supports ophthalmologists by performing diagnostic tests, preparing patients for exams, and assisting with minor procedures. The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, and comfortable working in a fast-paced medical environment.

  • Prepare patients for eye examinations by documenting medical history and chief complaints
  • Perform preliminary testing including visual acuity, tonometry, visual fields, and OCT scans
  • Assist physicians during examinations and minor surgical procedures
  • Administer eye drops and medications as directed
  • Maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments and equipment
  • Accurately document patient information in electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Educate patients on procedures, treatments, and post-visit care instructions
  • Ensure exam rooms are stocked and ready for patient use
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
  • Prior experience in ophthalmology, at least 3 years strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology and diagnostic equipment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a clinical setting
  • Basic computer proficiency, including EMR systems
  • Experience with diagnostic imaging (OCT, fundus photography)
  • Familiarity with refractive testing and lensometry
  • Bilingual skills are a plus
